One moment, I’m thinking it’s mid-year in August, the next moment, it’s almost the end of September! What is going on? I am still here, and I apologise for the lengthy “radio silence” between posts. After training consistently all year (apart from a short periods of illness or injury) I have had a slight fall in motivation. These things ebb and flow. That’s not to say I haven’t been riding, just not quite as much as I would do normally.
The weather has not helped with motivation either. It’s been windy as all hell here for way too long. Cold I can deal with, even rain as long as it’s not torrential, but the constant wind!
Tasmania is subject to the “Roaring Forties” wind pattern. This is a strong westerly wind that occurs in the Southern Hemisphere, generally between the latitudes of 40° and 50° south.
In other words, our little island gets absolutely battered around this time of year. Some days I’ll suck it up and ride, but other days it either does my head in, or it’s actually a little too dangerous. Lets just say that the past two months have not been deep section aero wheels weather!
I guess they call it Gravel Season?
Summer is just around the corner though, so things can only improve! At the moment I am riding my bike with no particular training focus. Not riding hard, but simply riding to rediscover the enjoyment of two wheels. It’s not always about going fast I guess… *
* Blasphemy, it’s always about going fast… 😂

I would much rather spend two hours going up than two hours pushing a headwind.

In any area where there is traffic then wind can be a real danger. How many times have I ridden alongside a hedge only to reach a field entrance and a gust of wind throws me sideways.

Oh yes! I’d forgotten about that sketchy feeling of cycling past a break in the hedgerows!
