Not quite what I had in mind…

This morning was one of those PERFECT days to ride. Clear skies, dry roads, a gently cooling breeze and temps topping out at 25 deg C. It couldn’t get much better. I’d got my gear ready the night before as always and dialled the aero bike in perfectly. I had everything set for a fast solo 100km of bike riding awesomeness.

There was a slight nip in the air as I clipped in and took off into the early morning. It was still dark so I had my lights on, but with the beautiful pink sunrise in the distance I could tell it would soon brighten up. Short sleeves and summer kit all the way! I was rolling nicely. Legs fresh, body rested, mind in the right place. This was a cycling Zen day, I could feel it. I was gonna fly around this course. Then just as I was starting to warm up nicely, PSCHHHH! Thud, thud, thud, thud…

Ohhhhhh. That’s my front tyre. There’s a matching nasty gash in the rear too. In the early morning darkness I’d run over a broken beer bottle strewn across the bike lane! Both front AND rear Specialized S-Works Turbo tyres took an Edward Scissorhands slicing, putting an early downer on the day’s proceedings. To say my mood took an unexpected turn would be an understatement!

Both tyres were bin jobs, ride aborted after less than 5 miles. Walk back to the car (luckily not far as I’d ridden a small loop). Sulky drive home. Not a happy bunny.

Oh well, there’s always tomorrow I guess…

    1. Cheers. Had a good 60km blast this morning to try and make up for it.

    1. No luckily not. Actually I can’t remember my last puncture before that so I’ve had a good run I guess.

    1. These things happen I guess if you ride enough miles. Right hand still isn’t quite 100% yet.
