Earlier this month FUMPA announced they were ceasing production of electric mini inflators. The company have confirmed that they will be leaving the cycling market and “pivoting the technology into other industries.”

Since launching over a decade ago, FUMPA have grown their range of electric USB mini pumps from a single larger model to a wide range of different sizes to suit different purposes. The Melbourne (Australia) based company was one of the very first to bring electric pumps to the mass market for cyclists. FUMPA quite literally changed the inflation game!

I’ve been using FUMPA electric mini pumps for a number of years now. I currently own two different models plus the rechargeable mini keyring pressure gauge. They’ve all been absolutely faultless. The full metal casings and high-quality build components are standout features.

Those features of course come at a cost. In the past few years the mini pump market has quite literally gone nuts. Now there are multiple players in the market all offering mini pumps at reduced prices, plus even more available on direct-to-consumer Asian knock-off websites for even less. The space has been flooded.

For now, it seems FUMPA are still selling pumps that are in stock online and will honour any aftermarket service and repairs for their products, but the future and timeframe for that is unclear.

It’s always a shame to see a small business leave the market, especially one with such a great product. I’ve met the owner and visited FUMPA HQ where the pumps are assembled, all by hand and mostly by the owner himself. I paid full retail for both of my pumps.

Although it’s unlikely to be cycling related, I’ll be watching where FUMPA go from here.
