Hitting 100,000km on Strava!

Last week, I logged my one hundred thousandth kilometre on Strava! How far is that? Let’s put that number into some possibly quite useless comparisons, 100,000km is roughly…

– Two and a half times around the equator
– A quarter of the way to the Moon
– Thirty times as long as the Mississippi River
– Sixteen times as long as the Great Wall of China

That might not be a lot compared to some, but it’s certainly a milestone for me. It’s been a number of years and a number of bikes since my first ever Strava upload with a ride up the famous Box Hill in England.

Back then I was riding my Specialized flat-bar hybrid, still yet to acquire a “proper” road bike. I did ride a bit before I got my first GPS cycling computer (a prize I won at a UK sportive) and registered for my Strava account, but I guess those don’t count. 😉 In the words of Fat Boy Slim; I’ve come a long way, baby…

It has certainly been a journey, both literally and metaphorically. Cycling has taken me to numerous countries across the globe. It’s enabled me to explore and immerse myself in travel, while really getting to know places in a way that only a bicycle can provide. I’ve met some incredible people along the way and made more memories that I can count.

Clocking up 100,000km has meant a lot of time in the saddle. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed almost every single moment on two wheels. I’m not even sure where or what I’d be right now without that. Cycling been a huge benefit to not only my physical health, but also my mental health.

Here’s to the next hundred thousand!

  2. Congratulations! With a lot of years ahead to ride, 200,00 will come. Dare I go farther on that prediction?

    1. Hopefully I’ve got a few decent years left in me yet to hit that target! 😁

      1. You’d better have a few! I’m 70 and I expect to have a bunch left. And centuries are longer here, since we measure in miles. ;)

How many countries are in your 100,000km?

      1. Good question! I do not have an exact number, but a quick “top of my head” count puts it at around 10-12 different countries.

Do a Strava heatmap for all your rides. Zoom out far enough from the map and you’l see everywhere that you have ridden.

I’ve got 9 countries in my Strava 100,000. Plus one other country that isn’t on Strava. So that didn’t happen 🤣

  8. That is stellar. Wow. I left Strava a few years ago and lost all my data at about 35,000km on this one bike. I doubt I’ll hit 100,000km. But, it won’t stop me from trying.
    Congratulations.
