Gravel Riding: UK vs Australia

“Fancy going for a gravel ride?”

UK: Muddy laneways, dodgy canal towpaths, soggy farmer’s fields, rocky hiking trails…

Australia (and USA): Champagne gravel roads for days… 🤘

Interesting comparison. I live in the UK and my perception of gravel riding has always been it’s more akin to your Australia/USA photos. I’ve no first hand knowledge or experience though. In Europe (the non UK part) I’m sure it’s like Australia/USA. The recently retired distinguished road racer Alejandro Valverde is making a name for himself as a gravel racer and the surfaces I’ve seen in bits of film don’t look anything like your UK photo.

Yep! I do love our gravel roads… just hate what they do to bike parts!
