Equinox

The weekend just gone signalled the Equinox, the mid point between the longest and the shortest day of the year. The time of year when Earth’s axis tilts neither toward nor away from the Sun, resulting in equal day and night lengths across the globe.

For those in the Southern Hemisphere like me, that means we’re half-way towards the shortest day. There’s a subtle chill in the morning air and the evening sunshine is losing it’s warmth. Arm and leg warmers are being pulled out of the drawer. Autumn is definitely arriving. Such a beautiful season. Leaves are starting to turn and the trusty gravel bike is calling my name from the corner of the garage.

In the Northern Hemisphere you’re likely seeing the birth of Spring. Hopefully morning frosts are all but behind you, that big ball of glowing yellow that is the sun has reappeared. Daffodils breaking through the ground, their bright yellow flowers reaching up to match the colour of the sun.

You’ve been grinding it out all winter on the “rain bike” or perhaps keeping the legs strong on the turbo trainer. It’s almost time to wipe that layer of dust off the summer bike and get it ready for the first salt-free sunny ride of the season. The seasons are changing and life is beautiful.

Whatever your season, it’s time to ride.
