Stepping it up a notch!

Ain’t no day better than NEW BIKE DAY! :-) Straight after returning from New Zealand, I put my Giant Fathom hardtail up for sale, sold my SRAM eTap Red groupset (#sadface) and used the cash to buy a brand new full suspension trail slaying Scott Genius! I was so excited I just had to celebrate with…

Yeah yeah, I know, I know. I said I wasn’t going to do more of that dirty mountain biking business, but I got another taste for it riding the gnarly downhill trails in New Zealand.

You can have any colour you like, as long as it’s black.

It looks huge – and it is – the Scott Genius is longer, fatter and heavier than the Giant Fathom. Point it in the direction of any trail however and it all works. Two rides through my favourite trails (Meehan Ranges) and I’ve set Strava PRs on pretty much every segment. The bike gives you the confidence to hit everything harder and faster, really eating up the trail like a fat kid devouring birthday cake.

Uphill, downhill, rolling singletrack, everything. Personal bests all round. I can tell you right now, it’s not my increased fitness or skill level that’s busting those records, hahaha!

I’ll always be a roadie, but this off-road stuff is damn good fun!

  2. nice rig. would love an MTB but no local trails justify one ;-(

    1. I hear you there! I have to drive 20 min to the nearest trail head (which leaves the wife without a car). It’s not ideal so I don’t do it as often as I’d like,

Nice bike, brother… but too bad you had to sell the eTap!

    1. It was a tough call for sure. I thought I’d sell the eTap while I could still get good money for it, now that SRAM have pretty much discontinued it and moved to 12-speed electronic.
