How to Ride Indoors Like a Pro

Cody Beales (he’s a triathlete, but we won’t hold that against him) has written a fantastic piece on how he used a turbo trainer almost exclusively over the winter to bring his bike strength up from being his weakest event to world class. Whether you’re new to indoor training or a seasoned year-round turbo veteran, his article is well worth a read. He explains how he “not only made indoor training tolerable, but preferable and extremely effective.”

You know, that’s not the first time I’ve heard about the notion of training indoors almost exclusively. For pure training it makes a lot of sense. However, faced with a sunny, 85 degree day, there’s just no way I could pass that up… but I don’t train. I just ride for fun.

    1. Absolutely. He gets paid to race, so his training needs to be on point and 100% the best it can be. For the rest of us, outside is where it’s at. It does show that you can still get very fit and fast even with a sub-zero snowy winter and zero outside miles.
